The Kandy House - Kandy
Secretly closeted amidst a thick jungle of old trees, wild palms and thick foliage fragrant with dew touched earthiness, you discover Kandy House. A 200 year old palatial villa skillfully transformed into a lovely, tranquil boutique hotel under the aegis of Bawa protégé Channa Daswatte, Kandy House is a serenade to the soul. From its luxurious rooms aptly named after exotic butterflies, to the stunning infinite pool that artfully mirrors its breathtakingly poetic surroundings of giant trees and panoramic paddy fields, to the beautifully landscaped garden, Kandy House is a dream awake. Food at Kandy House, best described as “Fresh Fusion”, is an eclectic blending of traditional Sri Lankan dishes and flavours with international favourites. Breakfast, included in the room rates, is a decadent affair of Fresh juices and fruits, eggs, pancakes, muesli and cereal with some Sri Lankan chart toppers. Lunch is mostly light, with salads and pastas tossed with garden fresh herbs and heart sandwiches and delicious tropical vegetable platters. Dinner reveals an exotic spread of classical international dishes that have been enhanced with a local twist.

Whether you choose to relax your time away or hanker to explore the past glories of an old kingdom city, Kandy House offers plenty to choose from. Magical massages from a masseuse with over 25 years experience, cycling to the attractions close by, playing a game of croquette or enjoying a book from the library or enjoying some family time with a fun board game or just lazing in the garden sipping a freshly brewed cup of Ceylon tea enjoying the myriad of butterflies and birds, visiting one or all of the four UNESCO Heritage sites in close proximity ; this is a gem of a location to enjoy that perfect holiday.
